- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're measuring revenue concentration for the board. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Top 3 customers:", "Top 3 total:" and "Share of revenue:", each with the math. Combine customers that share a parent before ranking. Facts only: don't mention risk levels or what the company should do. Under 60 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Ranking Acme Europe separately. The AI lists Acme, Birch, Acme Europe and gets $2.7M. Try: Say: "Combine customers that share a parent before ranking."
- Commenting on risk. The AI says the concentration is high or low. Try: Add: "Facts only; no comments on risk or actions."
- Wrong base for share. The AI divides by the top customers or all customers except others. Try: Add: "Share = top 3 total / $12.0M total revenue."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the three lines
- Combines the parent
- Shows the share math
- Bans risk comments
- Caps length
