Sort a planning calendar by date and flag an owner conflict
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're organizing the FY27 planning calendar. Write a prompt for plain text lines sorted by date, formatted "Date - Task - Owner", leaving out tasks marked done, then a last line starting "Conflict:" that names any person with two tasks on the same date. Dates are in 2026. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Keeping done tasks. The AI lists the kickoff and templates. Try: Add: "Leave out tasks marked DONE."
- Not sorting. The AI keeps Dana's order. Try: Say: "Sort by date, earliest first."
- Wrong conflicts. The AI flags Ilan's vacation or the board date. Try: Say: "Only same-person, same-date conflicts count."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes

- Says to sort
