Check quoted prices against a price floor and flag the ones below it
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're checking Q4 quotes against the price floor. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Deal | Price | Floor | Gap | Flag, one row per deal. Gap = price minus floor in dollars and as a percent of the floor, with a sign. Flag is "Below floor" when the price is under the floor, otherwise blank. Don't mention strategic reasons or approvals. No commentary. Under 80 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Flagging an at-floor price. The AI flags deal C because it equals the floor. Try: Say: "Below floor means the price is under the floor."
- Mentioning strategy. The AI repeats the logo argument. Try: Add: "Do not mention strategic reasons or approvals."
- Gap shown without percent. The AI shows dollars only. Try: Add: "Gap in dollars and as a percent of the floor, with a sign."
- Wrong columns. The AI adds a Notes column. Try: Say: "Columns exactly: Deal | Price | Floor | Gap | Flag."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the columns
- Gives the gap formula
- Defines the flag
- Bans side topics
- Limits output
