Compare ramp-adjusted sales capacity with the bookings target
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're checking whether the sales team's capacity covers next year's target. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Ramped capacity:", "Ramping capacity:", "Total capacity:", "Coverage:" and "Gap:", each with the math. Ramping reps count at 50% of a full quota. Don't mention attrition or hiring more reps. Under 80 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Counting ramping reps at full quota. The AI uses 10 x $500,000 and shows 100% coverage. Try: Say: "Ramping reps count at 50% of full quota."
- Mentioning attrition or hiring. The AI adds a risk note about reps leaving. Try: Add: "Do not mention attrition, reps leaving or hiring."
- Coverage in the wrong direction. The AI computes target / capacity. Try: Add: "Coverage = total capacity / target."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the five lines
- Gives the 50% rule
- Gives the formulas
- Bans attrition and hiring
- Caps length
