About this exercise
You're quoting revenue on a volume-tiered price list. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "First 100:", "Next 400:", "Last 150:", "Total:" and "Average price:", each with the math. Tiers are marginal: each tier's price applies only to the units in that tier. Don't mention the sales rep's claim about all units at one price. Under 70 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Pricing all units at $40. The AI applies the lowest tier to the whole order: $26,000. Try: Say: "Tiers are marginal; each price applies only to units in that tier."
- Echoing the rep. The AI mentions the rep's all-units promise. Try: Add: "Do not mention the rep's claim."
- Average price error. The AI averages the three tier prices. Try: Add: "Average price = total / 650."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the five lines
- States marginal tiers
- Asks for arithmetic
- Bans the rep's claim
- Caps length
