Send a new hire the day-one details they actually need
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
A new hire starts Monday, and you're sending her the day-one email. Write it in under 120 words, plain text, with the corrected arrival time and place in the first sentence, then a 'Bring:' list of exactly 3 numbered items from the HR checklist, then who will meet her. Leave out the internal details she doesn't need.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the original time. The first arrival time is listed first, and the update is easy to miss. Try: Add: "Use the Feb 26 update: 7:30am at the Dock B security gate."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 15 words."
- Loose packing list. The AI adds things like 'a positive attitude' or a water bottle. Try: Add: "'Bring:' then exactly the 3 checklist items, numbered."
- Sharing internal details. The AI mentions the badge delay or who she replaces. Try: Add: "Leave out the badge, Tom and the background check. Plain text."
