List handbook changes as old versus new
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
The employee handbook was updated, and staff want to know what changed. Write exactly 3 numbered lines in the form 'Topic: old → new', one per change that's actually taking effect, plain text, under 50 words. Leave out the change that was reverted before publishing, and don't add commentary.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking 'what changed'. The AI writes paragraphs with headings and reasons for each change. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines 'Topic: old → new'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 12 words."
- Including the reverted change. The parking fee is in the log, and the revert note is easy to miss. Try: Add: "Skip parking; that change was reverted."
- Missing the old value. The AI states only the new rule, so people can't see what changed. Try: Add: "Show both old and new on each line."
What a strong prompt includes
