Rewrite job requirements in inclusive language
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're cleaning up the requirements section of a job description before it posts. Write a 'Must have:' line with exactly 3 bullets, then a 'Nice to have:' line with exactly 2 bullets, so at most 5 bullets, plain text, each bullet under 12 words. Remove gender-coded and age-coded wording, and use the hiring manager's correction about the degree.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking to 'make it inclusive'. The AI rewrites the whole section with headings and explanations of each change. Try: Be exact: "'Must have:' with 3 bullets, 'Nice to have:' with 2. Plain text, nothing else."
- Keeping the degree. The REQUIRED label is louder than the comment, so the AI keeps it or moves it to nice-to-have. Try: Add: "Drop the degree entirely, per Dev's Feb 3 comment."
- Softening instead of removing. The AI swaps 'rockstar' for 'superstar' or keeps 'energetic'. Try: Add: "No gender- or age-coded words: no he, young, energetic, rockstar, digital native, culture fit."
- Dropping real job needs. The AI cuts the physical requirements to be safe, but they're in the job analysis. Try: Add: "Keep lifting 50 lbs and standing a 10-hour shift, in neutral words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the two labels
- Sets bullet counts
- Names the words to remove
- Uses the degree comment
- Asks for plain text
