Hand off phone screen notes without protected details
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You screened a candidate by phone and are handing off to the hiring manager. Write exactly 4 lines labeled Experience:, Pay expectation:, Availability: and Concern:, each under 20 words, plain text. Include only job-related facts, using what the candidate clarified later in the call, and leave out anything personal or protected that came up.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking to 'summarize the call'. The AI writes a narrative recap with headings, including everything she said. Try: Be exact: "4 lines labeled Experience:, Pay expectation:, Availability:, Concern:. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 16 words."
- Using the first number. She gave two pay numbers, and the AI may report the first. Try: Add: "Use her clarified number, $75k base."
- Passing on protected details. The AI includes everything from the call, including pregnancy or religion. Try: Add: "Job-related facts only. Nothing about pregnancy, leave or religion."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the labels
- Uses the clarified pay
- Job-related only
- Says who reads it
- Sets a word limit
