Request interpreters for next week's appointments, privately
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're requesting interpreters from your hospital's language services for next week. Write exactly 3 numbered lines in the form "Date, time - language - patient initials - visit length", sorted by date and time, plain text, under 50 words. Use initials only, leave off the canceled appointment, and include nothing about why patients are coming in. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- No fixed shape. The AI writes a request email with paragraphs per patient. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines: Date, time - language - initials - length."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 14 words."
- Keeping the cancellation. The canceled visit is still on the list in your notes. Try: Add: "Leave off the canceled Wed Nov 19 visit."
- Using full names. The AI copies patients' full names into the request. Try: Add: "Initials only."
- Including the reason. The AI adds 'pacemaker check' to be helpful, which the form forbids. Try: Add: "No reasons for visit or diagnoses."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses initials
- Drops the cancellation
- Leaves out reasons
- Shows the line shape
- Sets a word limit
