Lay out sponsorship tiers for a local business
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
A local business owner asked about sponsoring your 5K. Reply with one opening sentence, then exactly 3 numbered lines, one per tier from highest to lowest, in the form "Tier - $amount - what you get", under 90 words, plain text. Use the updated Gold benefits, and don't mention the tier that's sold out except to say so in one phrase if at all. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- No fixed shape. The AI writes a long email with a section per tier and bolded headings. Try: Be exact: "One opening sentence, then exactly 3 numbered lines: Tier - $amount - what you get."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each tier line under 20 words."
- Listing the sold-out tier. The AI lists all 4 tiers, including Presenting, which is sold. Try: Add: "Only Gold, Silver and Bronze; Presenting is sold."
- Missing the update. The Gold benefits in the main list are out of date. Try: Add: "Gold now includes a social media thank-you post."
- Padding the email. The AI adds paragraphs about the cause and a long closing. Try: Add: "One opening sentence, the list, then at most one short closing line."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the number of tiers
- Uses the updated Gold
- Skips the sold-out tier
- Shows the line shape
- Sets a word limit
