Assign team snack duty around families' conflicts
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're the team parent assigning snack duty for the soccer season. Write exactly 6 numbered lines, one per game in date order, in the form "Date - family", plain text, under 50 words. Skip the bye week, give no family two turns, and don't assign a family on a date they said they'll miss. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- No fixed shape. The AI writes a table with notes and the snack rules. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 6 numbered lines: Date - family."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 6 words."
- Assigning the bye week. The AI lists all 7 dates including the bye. Try: Add: "Skip Sep 27, the bye week."
- Ignoring conflicts. The AI assigns in list order and puts Patel on Sep 13. Try: Add: "Check every family's conflict; one turn each."
What a strong prompt includes
- Skips the bye
- Checks conflicts
- One turn each
- Sets the number of lines
- Sets a word limit
