Post a request for a math tutor without oversharing
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're posting in a local parents' Facebook group to find a math tutor. Keep it under 60 words, plain text: grade and subject in the first sentence, then days and times available, then your budget per hour, then ask people to message you. For privacy, don't post your child's name, school, or the test score. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "4 sentences, each under 15 words."
- Burying the basics. The AI opens with "Hi everyone! Hoping for some recommendations..." Try: Add: "First sentence: 7th grade pre-algebra tutor."
- Using the first budget. $30-$40 appears first; the update raised it. Try: Add: "Budget up to $45/hour. End with: message me."
- Oversharing. The AI includes his name, school and the 58% to be specific. Try: Add: "No name, school or test score."
- Ignoring where it will be pasted. AI loves bold and headings, which show up as stray ** and # symbols in Facebook. Try: Name the place and the format: "For Facebook. Plain text, no bold or headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Leads with grade and subject
- Uses the updated budget
- Protects privacy
- Ends with how to reach you
- Sets a word limit
