Post a weekly update in Slack with no markdown and one ask
- For Product managers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write your weekly team update as a Slack message in plain text, under 80 words. Start with the word Status: followed by one of On track, At risk or Late. Include one shipped item, one thing coming next week, and a single ask with a name and a day. No bold, no emojis and no bullets.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Wrong status. The AI says On track. Try: Say: "A slipped date means At risk."
- Missing the ask. The AI says 'let me know if you can help'. Try: Say: "Name Jo, the task and Thursday."
- Formatting. The AI adds bold, bullets or emojis. Try: Say: "No bold, no bullets, no emojis."
- Padding. The AI includes bugs and stickers. Try: Say: "Only shipped, next, and the ask."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap it: "3 short sentences plus the status line."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
