Write a three-line weekly update your CEO will act on
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Your CEO, Mara, wants your weekly update as exactly three lines labeled Win:, Risk:, Ask:, in that order. The Ask must be a decision only Mara can make. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing a full report. The AI covers every note: sick days, retro, coffee machine. Try: Say: "Exactly 3 lines: Win:, Risk:, Ask:."
- Old date in the risk. The AI uses Nov 15, the date that was missed. Try: Add: "FlowBridge's new date is Dec 1."
- A vague ask. The AI asks for 'support' or 'thoughts' instead of a decision. Try: Add: "Ask: approve the $3,000 contractor."
- Markdown in a plain update. The AI bolds the labels and adds a heading. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the reader
- Gives the three labels
- Makes the ask a decision
- Sets a word limit
