Pull the four numbers that matter from a card statement
- For Freelancers and creators
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your credit card statement is long and you want just the facts. Get exactly 4 numbered lines in plain text, under 60 words, each with its label: 1. Due date (use the updated one); 2. Statement balance; 3. Interest charged this month; 4. Promo rate ends. No advice about paying or other cards. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the date change. The AI quotes Nov 22 from the summary and misses the notice below. Try: Add: "Use the updated due date from the notice."
- Not naming the lines. The AI summarizes the whole statement in paragraphs. Try: Show it: "Exactly 4 numbered lines like: 1. Due date: [date]".
- Getting payment advice. The AI tells you to pay in full or echoes the minimum-payment idea. Try: Add: "Facts only, no advice."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 10 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the updated due date
- Names each line
- Rules out advice
- Sets the number of lines
- Sets a word limit
