Label a week of home blood pressure readings for your doctor

  • For Nurses and healthcare workers
  • You practice Asking for a format you can use
  • Time about 5 minutes

About this exercise

Your doctor asked you to log your blood pressure for a week and flag readings at or above 135/85 (either number). Get exactly 7 numbered lines, one per day in order, each labeled exactly Flag or OK, like "1. Mon Nov 3: 128/82 OK", using your corrected reading. Then a line starting "Highest:" and a line starting "Ask Dr. Chen:" with one question. Don't say what the numbers mean. Under 110 words, plain text. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Missing the correction. The AI uses Thursday's 126/79 as written. Try: Add: "Thursday was 141/86, per my correction."
  • Checking only the top number. The AI misses Friday, where only the bottom number is high. Try: Add: "Flag it if either number is at or above 135/85."
  • Letting the AI interpret. The AI echoes the neighbor or explains blood pressure categories. Try: Add: "Don't say what the numbers mean. No medicine talk."
  • Not fixing the labels. The AI writes a summary paragraph instead of one labeled line per day. Try: Show it: "7 lines like: 1. Mon Nov 3: 128/82 OK".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 110 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each day line under 8 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Uses the correction
  • Sets the threshold
  • Sets the labels
  • Rules out interpretation
  • Sets a word limit
