Prep neutral talking points for a team conflict
Practice: Getting the tone right. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Two of your planners, Lena and Marcus, keep clashing over who owns the weekly forecast, and you're meeting them together. Write exactly 4 numbered talking points, each one sentence, plain text, under 95 words. Stay neutral (don't say who is right), describe behaviors rather than personalities, name the shared goal from your notes, and end by asking each of them to propose one change.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'tips on handling conflict'. The AI writes general advice with headings instead of points for your meeting. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered talking points, one sentence each. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each point instead: "each point under 18 words."
- Leaking your private take. Your opinions are in the notes, and the AI may soften but still show them. Try: Add: "Stay neutral. No one is right or wrong. No personality words."
- Skipping the shared goal. The AI focuses on the fight instead of what both want. Try: Add: "Name the shared goal: one accurate forecast by Thursday noon."
- No clear ask. The AI ends with 'let's work together' and no next step. Try: Add: "Last point: ask each of them to propose one change."
