Brief a recruiter on a new opening in four lines
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your recruiter needs a quick intake brief for a new opening. Write exactly 4 lines labeled Role:, Must have:, Nice to have: and Pay range:, plain text, under 75 words. Use the approved pay range, keep only job-related requirements, and leave the wish-list items that aren't real requirements out of 'Must have'.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'a job brief'. The AI writes a full job description with headings and benefits. Try: Show the shape: "4 lines labeled Role:, Must have:, Nice to have:, Pay range:."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 20 words."
- Using the old range. The first range appears before the update. Try: Add: "Pay range is the approved $52k-$60k."
- Turning wishes into requirements. The AI includes the degree or 'culture fit' because they're in your notes. Try: Add: "Only job-analysis items. No young, culture fit or degree."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the labels
- Uses the approved range
- Keeps it job-related
- Says who reads it
- Sets a word limit
