Write a 20-second tabling pitch for your club fair
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're tabling for the Ridgeview College Photography Club at the activities fair, and members need a pitch they can say in about 20 seconds to a first-year walking by. Write it under 55 words, starting with a question, using the new dues and meeting room, saying no camera is needed, and ending with "Want to sign up?". Plain text, no stage directions.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not naming the listener. The AI writes a pitch for photography fans, full of gear talk. Try: Add: "For first-years with only a phone. No technical terms."
- Using last year's details. The old dues and room come first in the notes. Try: Add: "Dues are $15. We meet in Arts Building 210."
- Not setting the start and end. The AI opens with "Hi! We're the Photography Club" and trails off. Try: Add: "Start with a question. End with: Want to sign up?"
- Trusting the AI to count words. Spoken pitches come back at 100 words, way over 20 seconds. Try: Cap it: "5 short sentences, each under 9 words."
- Getting a script with stage directions. The AI adds bold labels like **[Smile]** and headings. Try: Add: "Only the words to say, plain text."
