Write display ad copy that fits three banner sizes
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're writing banner ad copy for Tandem Ride, a bike-share service, in three sizes. Write exactly 3 lines labeled 300x250:, 728x90: and 320x50:, with the copy under 12, 9 and 6 words, each including the corrected first-ride offer. No "free rides forever" or "unlimited" claims, and use plain text with nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- One length for all sizes. The AI writes the same sentence for every banner. Try: Set per-size limits: "300x250 under 10 words, 728x90 under 7, 320x50 under 5."
- Using the draft offer. 60 minutes is in the first line of the notes. Try: Add: "First ride free, up to 30 minutes."
- Overpromising. "Unlimited rides" is the AI's go-to bike-share hook. Try: Add: "No free forever or unlimited. No exclamation points."
- Getting design notes. The AI adds bold labels, CTA buttons and image ideas. Try: Add: "Only the 3 labeled lines, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the sizes
- Sets per-size limits
- Uses the updated offer
- Rules out overpromises
- Asks for plain text
