Write a launch email opener for each customer segment
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're launching Trailmix, a new feature in the Hikely app, and the email opens differently for each segment. Write exactly 3 numbered lines labeled Free users:, Premium users: and Lapsed users:, each one sentence under 25 words, each naming the fact that matters to that segment from your notes. Don't promise Trailmix is free for everyone, and use plain text with nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing one opener for everyone. The AI writes one generic launch line that fits no segment well. Try: Ask for one per segment: "3 lines: Free users:, Premium users:, Lapsed users:."
- Missing what each segment gets. The AI lists features instead of what that reader gets. Try: Add: "Lead each with that segment's offer from the notes."
- Overpromising. "Free for everyone" is the AI's default launch line, and it caused 400 tickets last year. Try: Add: "Never say free for everyone."
- Getting formatting and notes. The AI bolds the labels and explains each choice. Try: Add: "Plain text, no notes, no exclamation points."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the segments
- One opener per segment
- Uses each segment's offer
- Rules out overpromising
- Sets a length
