Rewrite an intern's exhibit promo in the museum's voice
Practice: Getting the tone right. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You run communications at the Granger County History Museum, and an intern drafted a promo for the new quilt exhibit. Rewrite it in the museum's voice: at most 3 sentences, no slang, no exclamation points, no emojis, and no claims the curator struck. Keep the corrected opening date, and end with the exact line "Free with admission." Plain text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Saying "make it sound professional". The AI tones down the slang but keeps the intern's facts. Try: Add: "Use the curator's notes: March 7, 38 quilts."
- Keeping the struck claim. The Tubman story is the most interesting line, so the AI softens it instead of cutting it. Try: Add: "Remove the Harriet Tubman claim entirely."
- Not setting the ending. The AI ends with a long invitation or a call to visit the website. Try: Add: "End with exactly: Free with admission."
- Letting it run long. Rewrites come back as two paragraphs with a bold title. Try: Add: "3 sentences at most, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
