Write retargeting ads that don't feel creepy

Practice: Getting the tone right. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You're writing retargeting ads for Oakhaven Bedding shown to people who viewed the duvet page but didn't buy. Write exactly 3 numbered ad lines, each under 16 words, each naming one real duvet benefit from the notes. Nothing that sounds like you're watching them ("we noticed", "still thinking", "you left"), no discount (none is approved), and only the plain-text list.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Sounding like surveillance. Retargeting ads in the AI's training say "Still thinking about it?". Try: Add: "Never imply we saw them: no we noticed, still thinking, you left."
  • Offering a discount. "Come back for 10% off" is the AI's default retargeting hook. Try: Add: "No discount or code."
  • Vague copy. The AI writes "Sleep better tonight" with no real benefit. Try: Add: "Each ad names one benefit from the notes."
  • Unproven claims. The AI adds hypoallergenic because duvets often say it. Try: Add: "No hypoallergenic."
  • Getting labeled variants. The AI bolds variant names and adds targeting notes. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 numbered lines, plain text."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Rules out creepy phrasing
  • Rules out discounts
  • Asks for real benefits
  • Says how many
  • Asks for only the list
