Shortlist feature names that pass the naming rules
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You need name options for a new feature before the naming review. Write exactly 4 numbered names, each 1 or 2 words, each followed by ' - ' and a reason under 10 words, plain text. Every name must pass the rules in the naming brief, and none can match a competitor's feature name or a name legal already rejected.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'name ideas'. The AI gives 15-20 names in categories with long explanations. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered names, each 'Name - reason under 10 words'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each reason under 8 words."
- Breaking the naming rules. AI loves 'Smart' and playful spellings. Try: Add: "1-2 plain words. No Smart, AI, Pro, Plus or made-up spellings."
- Reusing taken names. The AI suggests 'Waitlist' or 'Next Up' because they fit well. Try: Add: "Avoid competitor names and the ones legal rejected."
What a strong prompt includes
