Share a roadmap teaser customers can't hold you to
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your quarterly customer newsletter has a 'Coming soon' box. You want at most 3 bullets, under 60 words, plain text, covering only committed items, with timing no more specific than a quarter. Use customer-friendly names, not internal codenames, and leave out anything still being explored.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking to 'write about our roadmap'. The AI covers every project, with headings and long descriptions. Try: Limit it: "At most 3 bullets, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each bullet instead: "each bullet under 15 words."
- Including what isn't committed. The AI treats every roadmap row as coming soon. Try: Add: "Only COMMITTED, customer-facing items. Skip anything marked EXPLORING."
- Giving exact dates. Engineering targets are in the export, and the AI likes being specific. Try: Add: "Quarters only, never exact dates."
- Leaking codenames. The AI uses project names because they appear first on each line. Try: Add: "Use the customer names, not codenames."
