Write a staged rollout plan with go criteria
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're rolling out the new checkout to customers in stages. Write exactly 3 numbered stages in the form 'percent of customers - start date - go to next stage if...', plain text, under 75 words. Use the moved date and the agreed go criterion for each stage, and leave out the ideas that were dropped.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'a rollout plan'. The AI writes a long doc with risks, rollback and comms sections. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered stages 'percent - date - go if...'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 20 words."
- Using the old date. Mar 9 appears first, with the update below it. Try: Add: "Stage 2 starts Mar 11 (moved)."
- Adding dropped ideas. The 50% stage sounds cautious, so the AI includes it. Try: Add: "No 50% stage, no opt-in."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the line shape
- Uses the moved date
- Leaves out dropped ideas
- Sets the number of stages
- Sets a word limit
