Catch up a sick teammate on a long group chat in 3 sentences
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your teammate Omar missed three days of your marketing class group chat while he was sick. He wants a catch-up text of at most 3 sentences, plain text, with what he personally has to do and by when in the first sentence. It must use the final meeting time, not the first one suggested, and skip the memes and side chatter. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not saying who it's for. The AI summarizes the chat for everyone, so Omar's own task gets buried in the middle. Try: Add: "Write it to Omar. First sentence: what he has to do and by when."
- Missing the final plan. The first meeting idea appears first, and the AI may report it as the plan. Try: Add: "Use the meeting time the group finally agreed on."
- Including the chatter. The AI keeps the memes and the cookie plan to sound complete, and may drop the commuter rule to save room. Try: Add: "Include the commuter-student rule. Skip memes, snacks and side chatter."
- Asking for a summary. The AI writes a bulleted recap with bold headings, far longer than a text. Try: Be exact: "At most 3 sentences, plain text, like a text message."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says who it's for
- Puts his task first
- Uses the final meeting time
- Limits the sentences
- Asks for plain text
