Fit a week of homework into the hours you actually have

Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You're a high school junior with practice most afternoons and a messy list of assignments. You want exactly 5 numbered lines, Monday to Friday, each listing that night's tasks with minutes and a total that fits that night's free time, under 90 words, plain text. Every assignment must be done before it's due, using the new date your teacher gave, and the optional stuff stays out. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Missing the date change. The outline says Friday in your list, so the AI schedules it Thursday night. Try: Add: "The English outline is now due Wednesday."
  • Ignoring the time limits. The AI spreads work evenly and overloads Wednesday's away-game night. Try: Add: "Each night's total must fit my free time. Show the minutes."
  • Adding optional work. The AI fills spare minutes with SAT practice. Try: Add: "Skip the optional items and errands."
  • Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI builds a big table with bold days. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered lines like '1. Mon: pre-calc 45 = 45/60 min'. Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 12 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says how many lines
  • Fits the free time
  • Uses the new due date
  • Skips the optional stuff
  • Shows the line shape
