Schedule Science Olympiad practices around room and coach conflicts
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're captain of the Science Olympiad team and need next week's after-school practice schedule. You want exactly 5 numbered lines, Monday to Friday, each as day - event - room - coach, under 60 words, plain text. Each event practices once, every coach must be free that day, and use the room swap the front office sent. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not stating availability. The AI assigns events in list order and puts coaches on days they're busy. Try: Add: "Ms. Reed Mon/Wed, Mr. Ola Tue/Fri, Mr. Tran Thu."
- Missing the room swap. Room 204 is the default, so the AI uses it Wednesday. Try: Add: "Wednesday is in the library classroom."
- Not giving the line shape. The AI writes a table or paragraph. Try: Add: "Each line: day - event - room - coach."
- Letting the AI add extras. The AI adds the T-shirt order. Try: Add: "Only the 5 practices. Plain text, numbered."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Uses availability
- Uses the room swap
- Shows the line shape
- Sets a word limit
