Rank accounts to call this week by your manager's renewal rules
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're an account manager with five accounts and time to call four this week. You want exactly 4 numbered lines ranked by your manager's rules, each as account - renewal date - reason under 6 words, under 45 words, plain text. Use the renewal date that changed, and leave out the account that already renewed. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the date change. Ridgeway's Mar 30 date is in the list. Try: Add: "Ridgeway's renewal moved to Feb 6."
- Keeping the renewed account. Juniper renews soonest on paper. Try: Add: "Skip Juniper, they already renewed."
- Ranking by value only. The AI puts the biggest account first. Try: Add: "Rank by the manager's rules: renewals in 30 days, then escalations, then value."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI makes a table. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered lines, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 45 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Uses the rules
- Uses the date change
- Skips the renewed account
- Sets a word limit
