Plan a job-search week around shifts and real deadlines
- For Job seekers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're job hunting while working part-time. Write exactly 5 numbered lines, Monday to Friday, each like '1. Mon (2h): task; task', using only the free hours you have each day. Every open application must be submitted on or before its deadline, and the posting that already closed stays off the plan. Plain text, under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Ignoring your real hours. The AI gives every day a full block, even your 1-hour Wednesday. Try: Add: "Free hours: Mon 2h, Tue 3h, Wed 1h, Thu 3h, Fri 2h."
- Planning a closed posting. Orchard Bank is still in your list, and the AI schedules it. Try: Add: "Orchard Bank closed. Leave it out."
- Missing deadlines. The AI spreads tasks evenly instead of by deadline. Try: Add: "Every application on or before its deadline."
- Tips instead of a plan. The AI adds motivation, networking advice and bold headings. Try: Show it: "1. Mon (2h): Larkfield resume; LinkedIn headline". Plain text.
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting words, so a total word cap usually lands over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the free hours
- Respects deadlines
- Drops the closed posting
- Sets the line count
- Caps the length
