Open a discovery call with a 3-sentence agenda statement
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write what you will say in the first minute of a discovery call, as exactly 3 sentences in plain text. Sentence 1 confirms the time available and the goal. Sentence 2 says what you'll ask about, in the order of the agenda. Sentence 3 asks whether the buyer wants to add anything. Use the call length from the invite, not the earlier one, and do not mention your product or pricing.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old call length. The AI says 45 minutes. Try: Add: "Use the updated 30-minute invite."
- Mentioning product or price. The AI previews the demo. Try: Add: "Don't mention the product, pricing or a demo."
- Wrong agenda order. The AI reorders or drops topics. Try: Add: "List the four topics in the planned order."
- Too many sentences. The AI gives a paragraph. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 sentences, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Fixes 3 sentences
- Uses the current call length
- Lists the agenda in order
- Ends with an open question
- Bans product talk
