Update a buyer on contract review without promising a signing date
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a status update email to the buyer. Plain text under 70 words, starting "Hi Wen,". Say our legal team received the buyer's changes on Nov 5, expects to respond within 3 business days, and give the date that works out to (count from Nov 5; weekends do not count). Don't predict the outcome, say what legal will accept, or promise a signing date. Sign off "Hamid". Line 1 must be exactly "Subject: Contract review status".
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Predicting acceptance. The AI says 'we expect to accept most changes'. Try: Add: "Don't say what legal will accept."
- Promising a signing date. The AI says 'we can sign by Nov 13'. Try: Add: "No signing date promises."
- Wrong date math. The AI counts weekends. Try: Add: "3 business days from Nov 5 is Tue Nov 10."
- Wrong form. The AI writes a long email. Try: Add: "Plain text under 70 words, sign off Hamid."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the opener
- States the received date and the response date
- Bans predictions
- Bans signing date promises
- Sets the sign-off
