About this exercise
Write an email to a newly appointed VP. Line 1 must be exactly "Subject: Congratulations on the new role". Start with "Hi Anika,". Plain text under 70 words. Congratulate her, mention one specific thing from the announcement, ask one question about her first 90 days priorities, and don't pitch the product or ask for a meeting. Sign off "Sven".
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Pitching. The AI adds a product line. Try: Add: "No pitch and no meeting request."
- Mentioning her previous employer. The AI refers to the competitor. Try: Add: "Don't mention her previous employer."
- No specific detail. The AI uses generic praise. Try: Add: "Mention the 4-warehouse network move."
- Wrong subject or length. The AI writes a long email. Try: Add: "Exact subject; plain text under 70 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets subject and opener
- Uses the specific detail
- Asks one question
- Bans pitch and meeting
- Sets the sign-off
