Write a 30-second voicemail script that gets a callback
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're calling Tasha Greene, fleet director at Corbin Waste, about her job post for a fleet safety manager. Write a voicemail script under 75 words (about 30 seconds spoken). Say your name and number at the start and again at the end, reference the job post, and don't list product features. Plain text, no stage directions.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Number only at the end. The AI puts the number once at the end, so she has to replay the message to catch it. Try: Add: "Say my name and number at the start and again at the end."
- Reading the feature list. The AI turns your product notes into a feature tour that runs 60+ seconds. Try: Add: "Don't list features. One reason to call back."
- No reason to care. Without a hook, the AI writes "I'd love to tell you about our solution." Try: Add: "Reference her job post for a fleet safety manager."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs long when you only give a total like 75 words. Try: Cap each part instead, like "5 short sentences, each under 14 words," so the total lands well under 75.
- Forgetting it's plain text. AI adds bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in a script you'll read aloud. Try: Add: "Plain text only. No bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Repeats the number
- Gives the hook
- Bans the feature list
- Sets the length
- Asks for plain text
