Explain to a parent why a job offer text is a scam
- For High school students
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You got a text offering an easy part-time job. Write a note to your mom in exactly 3 lines starting 'What it is:', 'Red flags:' and 'What I did:'. The Red flags line names 3 things from the text, quoted. Use only what's in the text and your notes. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- A long explanation. The AI writes paragraphs about job scams. Try: Give the shape: "Exactly 3 lines: What it is:, Red flags:, What I did:"
- Red flags without proof. The AI says 'too good to be true' without pointing at the text. Try: Ask: "Quote 3 things from the text."
- Leaving out what you did. The AI forgets the part your mom cares about: did you reply? Try: Add: "Say I didn't reply, blocked and reported it."
- Letting markdown in. AI adds bold and headings by default, and in a text to Mom they show up as stray symbols. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the 3 line labels
- Asks for quotes
- Says who it's for
- Keeps it to the material
- Sets a word limit
