Work out the final exam score you need, with the math
- For College students
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want at least an 80 in Stats 101, and the professor changed the grade weights in Week 6: homework 20%, midterm 30%, project 10%, final 40%. Write exactly 3 numbered lines showing the math: So far: (points earned from each graded part), Needed: (the final exam score you need) and Check: (plugging that score back in to show it makes 80). Plain text, under 80 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not saying the weights changed. The AI uses the original syllabus weights and gets 82, like your roommate. Try: Add: "Use the Week 6 weights: 20/30/10/40."
- Not showing the math. The AI gives one number you can't check. Try: Show it: "So far: 90 x 0.2 = 18 ..."
- No check line. Without plugging the answer back in, a wrong weight slips through. Try: Add: "Check: plug the score back in to show it makes 80."
- Long or formatted output. AI adds a study plan and bold headings. Try: Add: "Only the 3 lines, each under 22 words, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the new weights
- States the target
- Asks to show the math
- Asks for a check
- Asks for plain text
