- For Marketing and content
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your VP wants to see at a glance whether Paid Social is catching up to Email over the last 12 months. Ask for exactly 4 numbered lines labeled Chart:, X axis:, Series: and Why:, where Series: shows only Email and Paid Social, and Why: quotes both channels' first and last month numbers. Plain text, under 80 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not saying the question. The AI recommends a chart that shows everything, so the one comparison the VP cares about gets lost. Try: Add: "The VP wants to see if Paid Social is catching up to Email."
- Charting every column. The AI includes Total and all four channels, which flattens the two lines you care about. Try: Add: "Series: only Email and Paid Social."
- A why with no numbers. The AI says a line chart "shows trends well" without using your data. Try: Add: "Why: quote both channels' first and last month."
- Long or formatted output. The AI writes a design guide with bold headings and color advice. Try: Say: "Exactly 4 numbered lines, plain text, each under 18 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- States the question
- Limits the series
- Asks for numbers in the why
- Names the 4 labels
- Asks for plain text
