Write a one-bug fix prompt for a newsletter popup
- For Marketing and content
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your AI-built site's newsletter popup has one bug. Write the follow-up prompt for the AI builder in one code block of at most 8 lines, with at most one short line outside it. It must name the popup component, say what's wrong, use the show-again window your lead just set, say not to change the popup's text, colors or any other component, and give one check you can do in the browser.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- A vague fix request. 'Fix the popup' lets the builder redesign it, like last time. Try: Add: "Only change components/NewsletterPopup.tsx."
- Using the old window. Your notes say 30 days, and the AI uses them. Try: Add: "Don't show it again for 7 days after closing (Imogen's call)."
- No fence around approved work. Builders tweak copy and colors while they're in there. Try: Add: "Don't change the text, colors or any other component."
- A prompt wrapped in chat. The AI explains the fix and writes code for you. Try: Say: "One code block, at most 8 lines, nothing else."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the component
- Uses the new window
- Protects approved work
- Gives a check
- Asks for one block
