Storyboard a 6-second vertical ad as a Veo prompt

About this exercise

Your team cut the Tidepool bottle ad down to a 6-second vertical (9:16) video, and you'll generate it with Veo. Get Claude to write the Veo prompt as a first line that states 9:16 and 6 seconds, then exactly 3 numbered shots, each with its duration in seconds and a camera term (like close-up or slow push-in), adding up to 6 seconds. The only on-screen text is "Cold for 24 hours" in the last shot, with no voiceover. Plain text, under 150 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Reusing the old plan. The AI follows the 8-second, 4-shot horizontal plan in the brief, with a logo card at the end. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 numbered shots, 9:16, 6 seconds total."
  • No timing per shot. Video tools need durations; without them the AI writes a mood paragraph with no beats. Try: Show it: "1. (0-2s) Close-up: ..."
  • No camera language. The AI describes what happens but not how it's filmed. Try: Add: "Each shot names a camera term, like close-up or slow push-in."
  • Letting the unapproved lines in. The AI picks the catchier tagline or keeps the old voiceover. Try: Add: "Only on-screen text: Cold for 24 hours, last shot. No voiceover."
  • Getting a formatted storyboard doc. The AI makes a table with bold headings and explanations, too long to paste. Try: Add: "Plain text, under 100 words, no notes."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets the shape and length
  • Asks for 3 numbered shots
  • Gives each shot a duration
  • Asks for camera terms
  • Limits on-screen text
