Plan a 3-shot Runway clip for a class trailer
- For High school students
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your media class is making a 9-second teaser for your short film, using Runway. Get Claude to write the prompt as a first line stating 16:9 and 9 seconds, then exactly 3 numbered shots, each with its duration and a camera move, adding up to 9 seconds. Plain text, under 140 words. The only text is "FRIDAY" in the final shot, and there are no people shown, just the empty locations.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing the full title card. The AI includes the title, cast and showcase details, which come out scrambled. Try: Add: "Only text: FRIDAY, in the last shot."
- Adding actors. The AI describes students walking the halls, which makes AI versions of real classmates. Try: Add: "No people, empty locations only."
- No timing. Without per-shot durations, the clip ignores the 9-second cap. Try: Show: "1. (0-3s) Slow push-in: ..."
- No camera moves. The AI describes places but not how the camera moves. Try: Add: "Each shot names a camera move."
- Formatting. The AI uses headings and bold. Try: Add: "Plain text, under 100 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets shape and length
- Asks for 3 numbered shots
- Gives camera moves
- Rules out people
- Limits the text
