Write a Veo prompt for a silent story-starter clip
- For Teachers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You start writing class with a short mystery clip, made with Veo. Get Claude to write a Veo prompt as a first line stating 16:9, 8 seconds and silent (no dialogue, no music), then exactly 3 numbered shots, each with its duration and a camera term, adding up to 8 seconds. Plain text, under 140 words. No people or faces, no text on screen, and it must end on the closed door without showing what's behind it.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Answering the mystery. The AI opens the door to show a world, so every student writes the same story. Try: Add: "End on the closed door. Never show what's behind it."
- No sound rule. Video tools add music or narration. Try: Add: "Silent: no dialogue, no music."
- No timing. Without durations, the clip length is anyone's guess. Try: Show: "1. (0-3s) Wide shot: ..."
- Adding characters. The AI puts a kid or a movie wizard at the door. Try: Add: "No people, no faces, no text."
- Production doc formatting. The AI writes headings and bold. Try: Add: "Plain text, under 100 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets shape and length
- Asks for 3 numbered shots
- Asks for silence
- Keeps the mystery
- Rules out people and text
