Text patients about a clinic closure in one short message
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your clinic's Elm Street office is closing for a day, and patients need a text message. Write it under 45 words, starting with the sender tag 'Riverside Clinic:' with no greeting or sign-off, and end with the required line 'Reply STOP to opt out.' It must give the right closure date and where appointments move, include the number for refills, and leave out internal details. Write a prompt that gets that text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 45 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "3 short sentences, each under 12 words."
- Writing it like a letter. The AI opens with "Dear Valued Patient" and closes with "Thank you for your understanding". Try: Say it: "Start with 'Riverside Clinic:'. No greeting, no sign-off."
- Using the first date. The memo mentions Nov 10 before the correction, and the AI may repeat it. Try: Add: "The closure is Monday, Nov 17."
- Leaking details, missing the opt-out. The AI may include why the date moved, and it can't know texts must end with the opt-out line. Try: Add: "Leave out staff details. End with 'Reply STOP to opt out.'"
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets a word limit
- Gives the sender tag
- Uses the corrected date
- Leaves out staff details
- Adds the opt-out line
