Explain patient portal signup to older patients
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Many of your older patients need to sign up for the new patient portal. Write exactly 4 numbered steps for a printed handout, each under 14 words, using the current activation rule. Avoid tech words ('URL', 'browser', 'credentials', 'authenticate', 'username'), and end with the line 'Need help? Call 555-0166.' Plain text. Write a prompt that gets that handout.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing a manual. The AI writes paragraphs and troubleshooting tips. Try: Set it: "Exactly 4 numbered steps, each under 14 words."
- Skipping a step. Shortened, the AI may drop the texted code, which is where many people get stuck. Try: Add: "Include the 6-digit code texted to their phone."
- Using the old expiry. The IT notes mention the old 30 days. Try: Say it: "The code works for 14 days."
- Tech words. AI writes "open your browser and enter the URL", which loses many older patients. Try: Ban them: "No URL, browser, credentials, authenticate or username. End with the help line. Plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says who it's for
- Sets the number of steps
- Uses the current rule
- Bans tech words
- Ends with the help line
