Request a shift swap in the format your unit requires
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You need to swap a night shift. Email your nurse manager under 60 words. The first line must be 'Swap request: Dec 12 night for Dec 19 night'. Name the coworker who actually agreed with his employee number (30418), confirm both of you are charge-qualified, as unit policy requires. Leave out your personal reason and any apology. Write a prompt that gets that email.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "First line, then 3 sentences under 14 words each."
- Skipping the unit's format. The AI starts with "Dear Denise, I hope you're well" because it doesn't know your unit's first line. Try: Give it: "First line exactly: Swap request: Dec 12 night for Dec 19 night."
- Naming the wrong coworker. Your notes mention Ana first. The AI may say she agreed. Try: Say it: "Tom Becker (employee #30418) agreed. Ana declined."
- Over-explaining. AI adds the wedding and an apology, and may forget the charge-qualified line policy requires. Try: Add: "Say we're both charge-qualified. No personal reason, no apology."
What a strong prompt includes

- Gives the exact first line
