Explain open enrollment in one short Slack post
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Employees need to know about open enrollment, and most will only read the top of a Slack post. Write under 70 words, plain text: the first line is the deadline, then at most 3 bullets, with the one change that forces action as the first bullet. The last line must be the enrollment link. Write a prompt that gets that post.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 70 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "First line under 12 words, each bullet under 15 words."
- Listing everything. The AI turns every change into a bullet, so the dental switch gets lost in the middle. Try: Set it: "At most 3 bullets. The dental change goes first."
- Using the old deadline. The notes list Nov 14 before the extension. The AI may use it. Try: Say it: "First line: enroll by Friday, Nov 21."
- Ending with chatter. AI posts end with "Reach out with any questions! 🎉" instead of the link. Try: Add: "Last line is the enrollment link, nothing after it."
- Forgetting where it gets pasted. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as ** and # clutter in Slack. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets a word limit
- Puts the deadline first
- Leads with the dental change
- Limits the bullets
- Ends with the link
