Apply for club treasurer with real examples, not promises
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're applying to be treasurer of your school's Environmental Club. The form asks why you'd be a good treasurer, under 60 words. Give two specific money examples from your notes, each with a dollar amount, and say how you'd report to members using the club's real meeting schedule. Skip 'responsible', 'trustworthy' and 'hard-working', and end with the line 'Jamal Brooks, Grade 10, Homeroom 214'. Write a prompt that gets that answer.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "3 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Promises instead of proof. The AI says "I'll manage funds carefully" without anything you've actually done. Try: Say it: "Use the $412 bake sale and the $650 robotics budget."
- Old meeting day. The flyer says Tuesdays, but the club moved to Thursdays. Try: Add: "Budget update at every meeting, first and third Thursday."
- Self-praise words. AI writes "I'm responsible and trustworthy", which every applicant says. Try: Ban them: "No responsible, trustworthy or hard-working." Then: "End with Jamal Brooks, Grade 10, Homeroom 214."
