Answer an internal promotion form with proof, not clichés
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're applying internally for Office Manager. The form asks why you want the role, under 80 words. Answer in first person, naming the posting ID OM-114 in the first sentence, with two accomplishments that each include a number from your notes, give your certification's correct name, and end with when you can start. Skip clichés ('passionate', 'team player', 'hit the ground running', 'wear many hats'). Write a prompt that gets that answer.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "4 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Claims without proof. The AI writes "I'm very organized" with no numbers behind it. Try: Add: "Use two accomplishments with numbers: $1,900 to $1,350 a month, 42 people moved."
- Using the nickname. Your notes call it the 'CAP certificate'. The form should use the real name. Try: Say it: "Name posting OM-114 first, and call it Certified Administrative Professional (CAP)."
- Clichés and a vague ending. AI answers lean on "passionate team player" and end with "I'm excited for this opportunity". Try: Add: "No clichés. End with: I can start Dec 22."
What a strong prompt includes

- Asks for numbers
