Reply to a feature request without promising a date

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

A customer asked when bulk export is coming. Reply under 90 words. The first sentence says plainly that it isn't available today, then give the workaround with the exact menu path, promise no date, quarter or 'soon', and make the last line the beta waitlist link with nothing after it. Write a prompt that gets that reply.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "4 sentences, each under 18 words."
  • Hedging the answer. The AI opens with "Great question!" and talks around whether the feature exists. Try: Say it: "First sentence: bulk export isn't available today."
  • No path forward. The AI says no and stops, or describes the workaround vaguely. Try: Add: "Give the exact path: Project > Settings > Data > Export CSV, and the waitlist link."
  • Promising a date. The customer and the notes both mention timing. The AI may repeat 'early next year' or 'soon'. Try: Add: "Promise no date, quarter or 'soon'. End with the waitlist link."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets a word limit
  • Answers first
  • Gives the exact path
  • Includes the waitlist
  • Bans timing promises
